#memory of Basenjis Dog#
The memory of a dog cannot be compared to the memory of a human due to the differences between brain anatomy and sense receptors hunters, protectors and communicators with their pack.
Dog memories are associative. That means they attach people and places to things they can hear and smell. Your voice and your smell are things a dog can remember all her life
Dogs are equipped with a superior sense of smell and hearing, which was helpful in their own survival as hunters, protectors and communicators with their pack. In this way, dogs perceive and behave in their worlds in different ways than humans do.
A dog will "remember" your scent and the sound of your voice in a way that a human cannot even imagine. It is this sensory memory that a dog's recognition of you is built on. Of course different breeds and individual animals vary in their ability to "remember" their sensory input.
Also, some dogs are better learners than others, just like humans. Keep in mind that your pet's memory is not built on
how long a time you have been away, but your pet's ability to have a sensory memory and pleasant activities associated with the scent and sound of you. Dogs can't tell time or how many days you have been gone, but they have very long sensory memories.
